Eat produce that is in season.
Well it’s getting to the end of peach season, but I thought I’d write a post about the importance of eating what’s in season.
First of all, food in season taste better. They will have more flavor, because they are allowed to fully ripen on the tree or vine. And not only will they taste better but their nutritional value is higher as well. Vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients will be higher in produce in season.
Secondly, they will be cheaper. That’s a great reason all by itself to eat what’s in season.
You’ll be supporting more local farms and markets versus buying produce from overseas or out of the states. And often when produce is coming from local farms it is fresher and goes through less processing or preserving than produce from out of the area.
